Matt Byrnes is a Director at Grant Thornton Australia's Melbourne office specialising in corporate recovery and reorganisation. He has developed strong skills in managing businesses in distress, and in negotiating the best possible outcome via a sale or appropriate workout strategy.

Experience

Matt has been involved in a number of Investigating Accountant (IA), Due Diligence and limited scope reviews on behalf of banks and other financiers.

He also has extensive experience managing companies in Receivership, Liquidation and Voluntary Administration.

From 2000 to 2003 Matt lived overseas and worked on reviews, restructuring assignments and formal administrations in Indonesia and the United Kingdom.

Matt has particular expertise in assisting businesses in the automotive, manufacturing, finance, property & construction and transport industries.

He is Grant Thornton Australia’s liaison director for distressed supplier services to the automotive industry.

Matt is the Chairman of the Melbourne CBD Insolvency Discussion Group, a Registered Liquidator, Official Liquidator and a full member of the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association of Australia (IPA).
