Matt Byrnes is a Partner in Grant Thornton Australia's Melbourne office specialising in corporate recovery and reorganisation. He has developed strong skills in managing businesses in distress, and in negotiating the best possible outcome via a sale or appropriate workout strategy.

Experience

Matt has been involved in a number of Investigating Accountant (IA), Due Diligence and limited scope reviews on behalf of banks and other financiers.

He also has extensive experience managing companies in Receivership, Liquidation and Voluntary Administration.

From 2000 to 2003 Matt lived overseas and worked on reviews, restructuring assignments and formal administrations in Indonesia and the United Kingdom.

Sector Experience

Matt is Grant Thornton’s National Industry leader for Manufacturing, and is also the lead Partner for distressed supplier services to the automotive industry.

He has particular expertise in assisting businesses in the automotive, transport, property, and hotel & accommodation industries.

Matt a former Chairman of the Melbourne CBD Insolvency Discussion Group and a full member of the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association of Australia (IPA).
