Michael completed a Bachelor of Business and Computing double degree at Monash University – majoring in Accounting and Information Systems.
During his first few years at Grant Thornton, in addition to achieving his Chartered Accountancy qualification, Michael undertook a secondment to Grant Thornton’s Motor Retail Audit Practice in the UK . The secondment exposed him to a different lifestyle and professional environment and a new set of technical issues and challenges. These were all experiences that Michael has been able to use to benefit the Melbourne practice and his clients.
Expertise
Michael is responsible for the provision of statutory audit services to clients including entrepreneurial owner managed businesses, listed public companies and not for profit organisations. He has provided advice to a broad cross-section of industries including manufacturing, motor retail, superannuation, IT, transport, building and construction.
Passionate about developing the junior members of his team, Michael is a facilitator of the Financial Reporting and Assurance modules in the ICAA CA Program.
Using his thorough technical knowledge, Michael ensures that every one of his clients meet all audit and financial reporting requirements. Michael always strives for a fundamental understanding of the needs of each of his clients and uses his information systems expertise to assist clients continually improve their businesses’ systems and procedures.
Michael also has extensive experience in the planning and execution of business process reviews and internal audits. Michael is a member of the Information Systems Audit Control Association and has recently successfully completed that Association’s Computer Information Systems Auditor examination. His experience in this area includes the use of computerised auditing software, systems evaluations based on both EDP and manual procedures with an emphasis on identifying control weaknesses.
