Background

Simon spent the first decade of his professional career predominantly at two of the big four accounting firms. He was exposed to a wide variety of clients in both audit and consulting engagements.

Small to large, private and public companies (including ASX listed and subsidiaries of SEC listed parents) from all industries. Such an environment provided invaluable experience and training. Simon joined Grant Thornton in 2005 and found an environment where he could be hands on with clients, whilst also having a strong team and a robust internationally developed audit methodology and tools.

Experience

From facilitating internal and external training sessions, Simon possesses a detailed understanding of Australian and international reporting requirements. He has experience in assessing the viability of businesses and projects and advises in a wide range of finance matters from management reporting and systems through to due diligence reviews and risk management.

Simon has had significant experience with foreign controlled subsidiaries (including SEC listed) operating in Australia and coordinating assignments with Grant Thornton practices or other firms both in Australia and overseas.

What makes an auditor stand out in a sea of audit professionals? For Simon, it is all about learning, understanding and engaging with the client and their business. To do this, Simon supplemented his strong assurance background with further study by completing an Executive MBA. This opened his eyes to the many other challenges facing businesses. He now appreciates the importance of aligning all parts of an organisation to their strategy, and how organisations might go about implementing their strategy.

Simon has played a large part in delivering the national audit training programs for audit graduates and accountants.
