Experience
Matt has some twenty-one years experience in the profession with Grant Thornton in both London and Sydney, including thirteen years as a partner in the Sydney office.

Matt has looked after a diverse portfolio of clients over the years, including listed public companies, international businesses and also not-for-profit organisations.  In this role, Matt has worked closely with the directors of other Grant Thornton offices in Australia and internationally to provide efficient, value added service to his clients.

Drawing on his experience in both hemispheres of managing international assignments, from 2004 to 2006 Matt was the International Business Centre Director for Australia, acting as liaison for all Grant Thornton international client work referrals in and out of Australia.

As well as managing a client portfolio, from 2007 to 2010 Matt was National Head of Audit & Assurance responsible for policy and strategy for the firm’s audit practice, in consultation with a national advisory group that he chaired.

In 2009 Matt took over as Office Managing Partner in Sydney but is still involved in servicing some of the offices largest clients.

Community involvement
Matt is a keen sportsman and still plays rugby at the age of 42, as well as coaching his sons’ teams.  He is also a trustee of the Australian arm of an international cancer charity.

Presentations and publications
Matt participated in various technical groups within the profession and is a regular presenter at ICAA seminars.  He has also been the Editor of Grant Thornton’s financial reporting newsletters and a member of Grant Thornton International’s IFRS Interpretations Group, which is responsible for ensuring consistent application of IFRS in all Grant Thornton member firms throughout the world.
