Australian cost of residential aged care

In December 2010, Grant Thornton was commissioned by a consortium of industry peak bodies and providers to undertake a national study of the cost of delivering residential aged care services in modern and efficient facilities. This report is the culmination of this research which builds upon our review of New Zealand residential aged care and similar research undertaken by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in the United Kingdom.

Simplifying financial reporting:  Fact or fiction

In June 2010, the Commonwealth Government and the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) announced a number of reforms to financial reporting in an attempt to simplifying the financial reporting process.

But have these changes achieved this simplification? In 2011, we surveyed those affected most by the changes - preparers of financial statements as well as their users - to find out.

Grant Thornton in partnership with Monash University and with the cooperation of the Australia Food and Grocery Council are pleased to release our research report:  "Food for Thought". Our research has revealed an industry in relatively healthy shape, but on the cusp of substantial change. There is broad optimism about the future, tempered with a realisation that mergers and acquisitions are likely to refashion the industry landscape.


JUMEX survey

This survey examines the views of junior mining and exploration companies in Australia, and was completed in July 2011, prior to the announcement of the Gillard Government's Carbon Scheme. The results reveal a buoyant outlook for the JUMEX community, even though there is still much volatility in their environment.

Aged residential care service review (September 2010)

This review of aged residential care services in New Zealand is the most extensive ever undertaken and had the highest provider participation rate of any comparable international study. The issues presented are complex and far reaching. There is no escaping the fact that the impending rapid growth in the over 65 year population will exert significant pressure on aged care policies and facilities.
