Wealth and investment management

Grant Thornton offer customized wealth and investment management (WIM) solutions to individuals who want to achieve specified financial goals.

Due to our depth of experience in taxation, superannuation, and investment matters, our staff are in a unique position to offer a personal approach to the integration of investment management, with superannuation and tax minimisation strategies. Our services include:

Gearing Strategies: WIM specialises in constructing investment portfolios that are not only sound but also tax effective. There are many ways to gear into a portfolio such as using a Margin Loan, Home Equity or using structured products such as instalment warrants. Whichever way you chose we will tailor a solution to reach your objectives.

Gearing in Super: last year the government changed a part of the act that covers superannuation (SIS act) that now paves the way for borrowing in Super. This now means a super fund can borrow money to invest in various asset classes such as property and shares. There are a few restrictions however and it is imperative that you consult one of our Financial Advisers so you get a complete understanding of how it all works.

Direct Equities: Many investors like to invest directly into Australian companies but quite often don't have the correct or up to date research. We can construct a direct equities portfolio for our clients that suits their investment strategy using the latest research and we can buy, sell and manage the portfolio on behalf of the client.

International & Australian Managed Funds: As an alternative to holding direct equities many clients choose to invest in managed funds. With managed funds you are paying an equities specialist to manage equities in a unit trust, quite often this is the only way to invest in international companies.

Separately Managed Accounts (SMA): A Separately Managed Account is where a professional investment manager manages a model investment portfolio and implements investment decisions. The securities in your account are visible and portable just as they would be if you had purchased securities directly, in other words, you own the shares and it is your cost base. The main strengths of SMAs are the scalability and the resources behind each investment decision.

Corporate Superannuation: Many businesses have a Corporate Superannuation fund in place for their staff, even with "choice" in super coming into force. Many Corporate super funds however aren't being managed to their full potential and may be paying higher than necessary fees including contribution, member and administration fees. In order to make sure that your company's Corporate Super Fund is performing at it's best please contact one our specialists. Click here for more detailed information on Corporate Superannuation

Self Managed Super Funds: The Superannuation sector in Australia has boomed over the last few years and Self Managed Superannuation is no exception. Also known as DIY super, many investors are setting up their own fund so they can directly control how their retirement funds are invested. At Grant Thornton we specialise ion SMSF's and we cover everything from setting up the fund right through to placing the investments as well the tax work.

Personal Insurance: Many Australians are underinsured when it comes to their personal affairs. We recognise just how important it is for your family and business to be looked after in the event you die or get sick. We cover all insurances including Life, TPD, Trauma, Salary Continuance and Key Man insurance. For a complete review of your personal insurance please contact one of our specialists.
