With Western Australia’s border due to open on 3 March, the McGowan Government has released $67 million in stimulus measures for businesses affected by COVID-19 on 24 February.

As part of its Level 1 COVID-19 Business Assistance Package, the business support consists of eight tailored packages including rent relief, outdoor dining and entertainment support grants, and is in addition to the $77 million Safe Transition Industry Support Package released on 10 February.

The eight tailored packages include:

  • a $42 million Tenant Rent Relief Scheme with grants of $3,000 to eligible small business tenants;
  • a $10.7 million Landlord Rent Relief Incentive of $1,500 for eligible landlords who voluntarily match the Government’s Tenant Rent Relief payments;
  • a $1.5 million Tenant Rental Credit Scheme supporting eligible small business tenants of Government-owned buildings with a rental waiver or credit of $6,000.
  • a $5 million Alfresco Support Program for small businesses in the hospitality sector, with reimbursement of up to $5,000 for those creating or expanding an alfresco area to meet the requirements of social distancing measures;
  • funding of $3.5 million to Waive Liquor Licensing fees (including a refund to businesses that have already paid);
  • $1.8 million Nightclub Assistance Program, consisting of payments of up to $50,000 for eligible nightclubs impacted by capacity limits and social distancing;
  • $1.3 million Performing Arts, Theatres and Cinemas Assistance Program with payments of up to $50,000 for cash flow assistance to indoor entertainment venues; and
  • $1 million Small Business Financial Counselling and Advisory Services.

Support throughout the pandemic is now sitting at $1.6 billion, with the McGowan Government providing an additional four financial support packages since December 2021, including the Safe Transition Industry Support Package, ReconnectWA and grants for businesses impacted by the Delta backpacker outbreak.
