Burgeoning Queensland market creates 7 senior appointments

As growth advisers to mid-size business, Grant Thornton leads by example, today announcing three new partner hires to expand its advisory offering, adding to a total of seven senior appointments in the burgeoning Queensland market this month.

We welcome John Dowell and Harley Mitchell, formerly partners of Crowe Horwath to join the firm on 1 September as the local market generates stronger economic activity and increased demand for corporate advisory services.

Also joining us on 3 August, Julie Smith, formerly of William Buck, to join our private business advisory team, specialising in services catered to the growing health and aged care sector in the local market.

The Brisbane office also recently welcomed Ian Brooks, formerly of Crowe Horwath and internally promoted Andrew Smith in Brisbane and Andrew Cornes in Cairns to the partnership group earlier this month. Helen Wilkes also joins the leadership team, promoted to principal in our Cairns office.

“We’re seeing remarkable growth in four key sectors across Queensland backed by the State Government. The health and aged care sector is exploding as baby boomers migrate up north for an affordable retirement.

“We’re seeing a knock on effect in real estate and construction as more apartments are set to go up across Brisbane, while tourism and agribusiness continue to drive local economic activity across the State.

“Queensland is expected to double the national growth rate over the next five years and we will continue to invest in our own capabilities across the four key sectors to meet the demands of our clients in the middle market,” said Tony Markwell, Managing Partner, Queensland, Grant Thornton Australia.

Grant Thornton’s CEO, Greg Keith echo’s Markwell’s sentiments and believes investment in the Queensland market is a key part of the firm’s national growth strategy.

“As the Queensland market continues to strengthen and grow we will continue to attract and retain the right talent to ensure we can provide the right capabilities to grow our clients in the middle market.

“These appointments form part of our national strategic commitment to achieving sustainable profitable growth by focusing on and tailoring our service to continually meet the needs of the mid-size business,” said Mr Keith.
