Grant Thornton bushfire recovery checklist and guide now online

Communities across Australia have been ravaged by bushfires and extreme heatwave conditions since October 2019 – with homes, lives, livelihoods and half a billion native animals lost.

Grant Thornton Australia, like the rest of the world, has been shocked and saddened by the devastation these fires have caused.

So far, the firm and its foundation have donated a combined $250,000 to bushfire relief efforts as well as providing additional leave for those affected or fighting fires in their community. Further, the firm recently published a Bushfire Recovery Guide for people affected by the fires which provides a high-level checklist to aid in recovery which helps to highlights services, grants and extensions that can be taken advantage of. The firm has also established a team which is dedicated to helping clients navigate an incredibly challenging time.

“With fires raging across the country, it was certainly a sombre start to the new year but I am also very proud of the manner in which our people, the broader Australian community, and our friends overseas are supporting those directly impacted. We are keen for all of our clients who have been impacted to reach out to us so we can assist and share with them our Grant Thornton Bushfire Response Program and outline how we can support them,” said Greg Keith, CEO Grant Thornton Australia.

Unfortunately, the fire season still has a long way to run so this guide will be continuously updated as further information and support becomes available throughout the duration of the fire season.

Bushfire Recovery Guide

Communities across Australia have been ravaged by bushfires and extreme heatwave conditions since October. We have witnessed the tragic loss of lives, property, wildlife and livelihoods with more devastation expected over the remainder of the summer.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by these recent events.

As the fires continue, crisis management and clean up are clearly at the forefront for the relevant government agencies, volunteers and the communities affected.

This guide is designed to give you a high-level checklist to help you start the recovery process alongside your advisor, whether that be Grant Thornton or another.
