Rick Newnham, Chief Economist, Chamber of Commerce & Industry WA
Rick is responsible for advocacy on behalf of WA's business community, and leads CCI's economics, policy, government relations, marketing and events teams. Rick led the WA industry campaign to fix the GST which received the backing of the Productivity Commission when they adopted CCIWA’s proposal to change the GST formula. The campaign was described by Prime Minister Scott Morrison as being "the most successful lobbying effort over the last few years". Rick was credited by The West Australian newspaper as having provided the “intellectual grunt” necessary to achieve the change which resulted in an additional $4.7 billion being returned to WA.
Prior to joining CCI Rick worked as an economist for Shell around the world. He is recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Global Shaper, is an Ambassador for Australia Day, and was awarded Young Western Australian of the Year in 2011.
Samantha Tough, Director, Clean Energy Finance Corporation
Samantha is an experienced strategist and director with over 25 years in over 25 industries as an executive and non-executive. She has been a member of a number of public and private boards. Her current portfolio includes the Clean Energy Finance Corporation; Synergy; Saracen Minerals Ltd; WAAPA and Ox Mountain Ltd. Samantha also Chairs the Bluemount Investment Group for WA.
Previously she has been General Manager North West Shelf for Woodside, President Resources with the Commonwealth Bank, Director Strategy Hardman Resources Ltd and CEO Asthma Foundation WA. Samantha has also spent a number of years in the commercialisation space assisting young companies to grow.
Peter Hills, Head of Tax – Perth, Grant Thornton Australia
Peter has extensive tax consulting experience across a diverse range of industries, particularly in resources and energy and business enterprises. He has advised both companies and individuals on the tax implications of investing in or relocating to Australia, and investing, relocating or temporarily working overseas. He has extensive experience in the complete design and implementation of employee share schemes for companies and also advises clients in relation to corporate taxation consulting, remuneration planning, business structuring and business acquisitions or sales.
