Grant Thornton Partners ‘Unite to Build’ in Cambodia

This May, Grant Thornton’s Partners and Principals are participating in Habitat for Humanity Australia's Global Village volunteering program, where 13 teams work together to build safe and secure housing for 13 disadvantaged families in Cambodia.

This Cambodia build is Grant Thornton’s third time engaging with Habitat for Humanity Global Village as volunteer house builders. It’s promising to be the biggest and most impactful yet, with over 150 Partners and Principals working together to build homes in the Samraong, Khan Prek Pnov area, approximately 25kms from Phnom Penh City. This experience is an opportunity to once again work together to achieve something remarkable as a Partnership and bring to life the firm’s CARE values and purpose of caring for our people, clients and communities and supporting them to thrive.

Our first collaboration with Habitat for Humanity was in 2015, when 135 Partner and Principals Partners embarked on a truly life and business changing experience building safe and secure homes for ten disadvantaged families. In 2018, 150 Partners and Principals participated in the second Habitat for Humanity build in Vietnam to construct 13 homes across the Quang Nam province in Hoi An.

In addition to the Partners swapping out laptops and suits for hardhats and shovels, each participant raises funds to help Habitat for Humanity continue to make a remarkable difference to families in need. Donations go toward the materials and supplies for the homes and will enable Habitat for Humanity to supply families with clean water and sanitation, as well as provide livelihood training, health support and education to build long-term, sustainable communities.

Habitat for Humanity Australia is part of Habitat for Humanity (HfH), an international not-for-profit with presence in over 70 countries. Their mission is to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Since its inception it has helped more than 35 million people access safe and decent housing, along with access to water, sanitation and hygiene and livelihood training to build better lives. Since 2003, Habitat for Humanity Cambodia has supported over 118,000 Cambodian families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. This has been made possible through the generosity of volunteers who have raised funds and donated their time to building safe and secure homes.
