To be eligible to apply for our graduate opportunities or our vacation program, you’ll need to meet the following requirements.
2027 Graduate opportunities
You must be:
- planning to complete your studies by mid-2026, or have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree within the last two years
- an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, a Permanent Resident of Australia or a visa-holder subject to the below conditions.
2026/27 Vacation students
You must be:
- in your final or penultimate year of study
- an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, a Permanent Resident of Australia or a visa-holder subject to the below conditions.
Working rights
To be eligible to apply, you will need to demonstrate that you have full time working rights within Australia at the time of your application. We will accept applications from candidates who hold one of the following visa types:
- Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189 or 190)
- Partner/Spousal visa (Subclass 820 or 801)
- Secondary employer sponsored visas (for example: Subclass 457, 482 or 186, where the primary visa holder is a family member)
Students holding the below visas will be required to submit an application via our Expression of Interest
- Student Visa (Subclass 500)
- Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
Expression of Interests will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and a member from our team will contact you should your application be shortlisted.
Please note: We do not accept applications from Working Holiday (Subclass 417) or Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa holders for our graduate opportunities or vacation program.
Student and Graduate Visa holders
We welcome applications from international students and graduates studying at an Australian tertiary institution, however please note that opportunities for candidates on temporary visas are limited and may vary by office location, service line and business needs. Candidates holding a Student Visa (Subclass 500) or Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) should apply for roles specifically advertised for international students and graduates.
Applications from temporary visa holders will be assessed on an individual basis, taking into account current business requirements, work rights and long-term eligibility to work in Australia.
Visa requirements
To be considered for employment, candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Ongoing legal working rights in Australia
- A pathway to permanent residency or another suitable long-term visa arrangement
- The ability to maintain valid work rights throughout their employment
- Where required, evidence of English language proficiency in line with Department of Home Affairs requirements
Candidates holding a passport from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada or the Republic of Ireland are not required to provide evidence of English language proficiency.
Please note:
- Grant Thornton Australia does not sponsor students or graduates for residency purposes.
- Successful candidates who are not permanent residents at the time of offer will be responsible for maintaining their own visa status and, where applicable, independently applying for permanent residency.

Before re-applying, we encourage you to review your previous application and take time to reflect on how you can improve your application. Make sure you submit the most recent copy of your academic transcript and describe any skills and experiences on your resume that you’ve gained since you last applied.
If you are planning to join the Audit, Private Enterprise or Tax teams, you will be required to complete your CA qualification. If you have not completed all of the required subject to gain entry into the CA program, you may be required to complete some bridging units. For more information on the CA program, please visit the Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand website.
If you are joining the Financial Advisory team, the requirement to complete the CA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program varies between our office locations. You will be provided with more information regarding the relevant post-grad qualification you will be supported to complete if you are invited to progress through the meet us at the assessment centres.
If you are joining the Consulting team, you will be supported to undertake the CA program if you are eligible and wish to do so, but you will not be required to undertake this qualification. Associates in our Consulting team may be supported in a range of post-grad qualifications relevant to their specialisation.
