mid-sized business report Supporting affordable housing requires planning, certainty – and tax reform
There is a lot of noise around the property sector at the moment – and it’s not all positive. Prices are down – but this shouldn’t be a surprise when some markets (namely Sydney & Melbourne) saw unprecedented hikes in recent years.

Be Empowered. Be Authentic. Be More.

So, what can you expect? Here, you’ll join a collaborative, agile and dynamic firm that delivers quality services in Assurance, Tax, Financial Advisory, Private Advisory and Consulting.

Our culture ignites and fosters high performance. We’re passionate about our clients’ success – and we care deeply about our work and each other. We’re committed to our people, our clients, and our community.

And with a global network spanning more than 135 countries, we have the reach to take you where you want to go.

What will you BE?

What we’re looking for

We're looking for well-rounded candidates who connect with our clients, our purpose and our culture and want to make an impact right from the start.

In addition to studying a relevant qualification, we’re looking for people who are curious, ambitious and who value the things we value.

  • We empower our people to make a difference. We want our people to think for themselves, to speak up, and to actively shape our firm’s culture and future.
  • We genuinely care about our clients. As part of our work, we discover what’s important to them and enjoy helping them succeed.
  • We want our people to bring their whole selves to work. Individuality and authenticity are very important to our firm.
  • We highly value collaboration. We believe that it’s energising and stimulating to collaborate – to learn from and be inspired by others. We believe that diverse teams will always outperform the individual.

What we offer you

LEARN
Training and development

As well as on-the-job learning, you’ll enjoy a program of structured training – starting at orientation to immerse you in our business, vision and purpose. Once you’ve joined your team, you’ll continue to be supported by a broad range of blended learning experiences to help you develop your technical and business skills, knowledge and confidence. Join us as a graduate and we’ll also support you to complete the Chartered Accountant (CA) Program. In addition to covering the costs of your fees and study materials, we’ll also provide you with in-house masterclasses and paid study leave to help you prepare for and sit your exams!

IMPACT
Make a meaningful impact

In addition to your client work, you’ll also have plenty of opportunity to be involved in initiatives and causes that are meaningful to you. Passionate about diversity? You might like to join our DAWN committee, who work to celebrate our people’s diversity and foster inclusive work environment. Or perhaps PRISM, our LGBTI+ & Allies Network, is where you can offer your support. Is volunteering close to your heart? Get involved with the Grant Thornton Foundation or our Social Responsibility Committee to support the broader community. No matter what’s important to you, there’s an opportunity to make a difference at Grant Thornton.

PROGRESSION
Career progression

One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to career progression, so we’ll give you the guidance and support to help you get to where you want to go. No two careers are the same. Your future at Grant Thornton might see you progress in your team or experience life in a different city on secondment or with a permanent move. Or you may look to broaden your horizons and spend time in a different country with one of our global member firms. Where you take your career and how fast you get there is up to you.

Meet our leaders

Many of our leaders started here as graduates. They stay because we’re a great place to work – offering career opportunities and diversity, opportunities to learn and grow, and great clients looking for genuine advisers.

Meet Hannah Hiscox – Partner

Hannah grew up on a beef cattle property in Wycarbah, Queensland. In a primary school of 20 children, she was the only girl in her grade. After completing university in Rockhampton, Hannah started as a graduate at Grant Thornton. In December 2018, she became the first female Audit & Assurance Partner in Brisbane.

Hannah’s path to Partner has included two secondments in the UK, two parental leave breaks and company-supported postgraduate qualifications in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies. “I am lucky to work with some of our most inspiring clients who are making a real difference to society’s most vulnerable. These organisations are mission driven and the funding and reporting channels they navigate are complex. It ultimately means it is that much more important as an industry to share ideas and collaborate on sector issues.”

Meet Murray Bragg – Partner

Murray grew up in Jimboomba, Queensland, an hour south of Brisbane. In 2005, he joined Grant Thornton as a graduate and received flexible working support from the start. “For three years I was fortunate to have two careers — accounting and cricket. I am very grateful for the flexible working arrangements that facilitated my full commitment to training and playing matches with the Queensland Academy of Sport and the Queensland Bulls.”

In December 2018, almost 10 years after winding down his cricket career, Murray was appointed Audit & Assurance Partner in Brisbane. Though he has a fairly broad client base, he has always been passionate about transport and infrastructure. “I believe that it is important to understand the impacts that a changing regulatory environment has on my clients. I’m passionate about working with them to achieve practical and commercial outcomes.”

VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP
Forage – Audit Virtual Experience

Learn your way around financial statements and what it takes to plan, prepare and sign off a company audit! In collaboration with Forage (formerly known as InsideSherpa), we’ve launched a virtual internship to provide students an experiential preview of what they can expect from a career with Grant Thornton. Through the program, you will learn how to conduct an audit and why it is so important to keep organisations honest. It is also a great opportunity for you to get a sense of what it’s like to work in an accounting firm, and the type of work we support our clients with.
