Example financial statements

Andrew Rigele Andrew Rigele

Grant Thornton produces example financial statements to illustrate the application of the requirements in Australian Accounting Standards (AASBs) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs).

The reporting periods ending 31 December 2020 and 30 June 2021 represent an opportunity for most Australian entities to take stock of their financial statements after a frenzied period of significant change – ensuring financial reports accurately reflect the requirements of AASB 16 Leases, AASB 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers, AASB 9 Financial Instruments, and Interpretation 12 Uncertainty over Income Tax Treatments, all of which became effective in the preceding two reporting periods.

The new challenges for December 2020 and June 2021 are relatively minor – the application of AASB 2020-4 Covid-19-related Rent Concessions being the only recent standard with relatively broad impact.

To assist Australian entities to navigate through these challenges, we have produced a set of financial statements for the year ending 31 December 2020.  While this set of example financial statements is IFRS-based, it equally applies in the Australian context as the Australian requirements for financial reporting when considered in the context of AASB 1054 Australian Additional Disclosures and the Corporations Act 2001 (which include certain additional disclosures).
