Ecobatt secures $1.75m from WA’s E-waste Infrastructure Grants Program

Congratulations to Ecobatt Pty Ltd, part of the Recycal Group of companies, on its successful application in the second round of Western Australia’s E-waste Infrastructure Grants Program.

The program supports the statewide ban on e-waste disposal to landfill implemented on 1 July 2024 and forms part of the Western Australian Government’s strategy to increase e-waste storage, collection, recycling and processing capability in the state. Grants within the e-waste infrastructure stream were awarded to infrastructure projects that increase recycling capability and capacity in Western Australia.

Ecobatt is a battery recycling company specialising in collecting, sorting and processing batteries. In Western Australia, it currently operates a facility established in 2016.

Ecobatt received $1.75m from the grant program – the largest single award from the $5.4m allocated through Round 2. The funding will enable Ecobatt to expand its current Western Australian operations, delivering an innovative e-waste processing and end-to-end recycling facility that will enable the business to recover highly valuable materials from the battery recycling process and contribute to growing circular economies in the state.

Grant Thornton was proud to assist Ecobatt in this grant application and support recycling initiatives that enhance Western Australia’s on-going sustainability objectives.

“At Grant Thornton we are passionate about business growth and environmental sustainability. Ecobatt is a strong example of a business that supports both these important pillars. The WA E-waste Infrastructure grant program has offered industry support to scale up operations and build infrastructure around the recycle, reuse and remanufacture of valuable materials which have historically been lost to landfill. It’s positive to see investment from the Western Australian Government to advance these priorities,” said Simone Barker, Innovation Incentives Director.
