Grant Thornton named a 2023 Inclusive Employer

Grant Thornton has been named an Inclusive Employer for the second time by The Diversity Council of Australia (DCA).

This recognition is based on the responses from everyone in the firm who completed the DCA external Inclusion@Work Index survey in July and August this year. The Inclusion@Work Index is a survey conducted by DCA where people are asked about their experience of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

An Inclusive Employer must have responses from its people demonstrating the organisation is active and committed to creating and fostering inclusion. This is shown by achieving results above the National Index Benchmark on at least five out of six of the DCA Inclusion measures. This year’s results showed that Grant Thornton was consistently above the National Index Benchmark, DCA Member average, and its results from the same survey in 2021 across all key metrics.

Greg Keith, Grant Thornton CEO said: “Our goal has always been to create a safe place at work and so we are proud to be recognised externally as an inclusive employer. At Grant Thornton we are passionate about Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Creating an inclusive workplace for all our people is central to our company culture and team environment, so we can ensure our people feel empowered, respected, supported and safe at work.

“This is an exciting time for our organisation to be curious and open to listening and learning, where we as a business can support each other. We are on a journey, and making valuable change doesn’t happen quickly. We are proud of the work we have done to build a great foundation for inclusion, but we know there is still work that needs to be done and we’re proactively planning for this in our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy for FY24 and beyond. We want to continue to create a community and environment where our people feel they can bring their whole self to work – authentically and freely – as we know it’s good for our people and the service we give to our clients.”

The Index is designed to measure employee diversity and inclusion experiences in the workplace, providing organisations with valuable insights into employee experience and diversity demographics, as well as the current impact of D&I initiatives. Organisations can make informed decisions about future strategies and initiatives and use the insights gained to drive meaningful change within their organisation.

The DCA has identified employees require four key needs to be met to feel included at work: respect, connection, contribution, and progress. Since the launch of the Inclusion@Work Index in 2017, results consistently show a strong link between inclusion at work, team performance, innovation, retention and customer service. Inclusion not only benefits individual team members, but also positively influences the broader organisation and community.

The DCA is a not-for-profit organisation focused on fostering diverse workforces through partnerships across Australia. Further information about the Diversity Council of Australia Inclusion@Work Index can be found here
