As we outlined in our March 2021 client alert, the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) came into effect on 1 January 2019, and the deadline for submitting your Modern Slavery Statement to the Australian Border Force Modern Slavery Registry was extended.

While reporting periods have gone back to their normal schedule, now is a timely reminder to collate your Modern Slavery Statements and submit in time with the regular deadlines.

Upcoming deadlines are:

Reporting period

Statement due

1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020

30 June 2021

1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021

30 September 2021

1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021

31 December 2021

If your reporting period falls within these dates, prepare now to meet your reporting deadline. Please note the Australian Border Force needs to review each statement before they are published and are publishing statements on a monthly basis.

Who does this apply to?

Businesses (including foreign entities operating in Australia) with a consolidated annual revenue of $100m or more, must submit an annual Modern Slavery Statement, which will be publicly available once approved and uploaded by the Australian Border Force. Other businesses can report voluntarily.

If your business meets the above criteria, or you’d like to submit a voluntary report, contact us now to ensure you’re prepared to lodge your submission.
